The reality is, they often do.  And it's not their fault.  When the brain feels threatened, it goes into flight, fight or freeze mode. 

The brain's ancient automatic survival response is very powerful and trumps all other parts of the brain's processing mechanisms when it kicks in. And a business owner or manager can very easily & unknowingly make it kick in.

When this happens, the brain no longer has the capacity to logically process new information.

Why am I able to help you be a more inspiring, capable leader who empowers others through conversations?


It's not just because of my lifetime of experience in elite  sport as a player & coach, or because of my years of government management experience. It's not even necessarily because I have been a teacher & executive coach,  & a mentor & trainer in leadership & well being.


That's only a part of the reason.  Let me share the REAL reason that may surprise you.


2006 was my year from hell.

It was the year I disconnected from who I was. 

This horror year included finalising my father's estate, worrying about my mother's deteriorating mental health, & trying to navigate an unworkable organisational restructure which tripled my workload.  I had a two year old at home & was in a 3 day a week job share where my job share partner was taken offline & my director resigned.  I also had three hospital visits in six months from two miscarriages and a shoulder reconstruction.  

 

After a conversation with the Executive Coach I was seeing to help navigate through the organisational restructure, she pointed out what, in retrospect, was obvious.  I was depressed. 


After getting to a place of acceptance around the depression,  which wasn't easy for a high achieving self-proclaimed optimist who thought this wasn't in her make up, I put some strategies in place & took leave from work to reflect & consider a way forward.

I continued to see the Executive Coach.  During one session the focus turned to previous conversations I had with an Executive Director which hadn't gone so well.  

As my coach helped me to reflect on what had unfolded, it was then I uncovered the real secret to my conversational woes.  I had a crucial insight -  I was a key contributor to these conversations ending up where I didn't want them to go!  I realised it was how I was focussed in these conversations that was a huge factor in things heading in the wrong direction!   And not only that, I realised that it wasn't just these conversations this applied to, but conversations with many others.  


I was creating the unwanted outcomes.  And NOT JUST IN MY CONVERSATIONS but in MY LIFE - both at work and at home.  Oh dear. 


It was most brutal, important and empowering "aha" moments I had ever had.


I knew that if I had created these outcomes from how I was focussed, I could create better results if I consciously chose to focus in the right way!


This launched me into my career as an executive & life coach.


In the years to follow I became dedicated to educating myself to the field of human behaviour and transformation.  In addition to multiple coach education courses based on neuroscience, I learned other modalities such as mindfulness, neurolinguistic programming and hypnosis. 

I have incorporated the best of each of these modalities and combined them with the knowledge gained from over a decade of 1 on 1 coaching experience to create the Empowering Conversations Program.
